What kind of wine do you enjoy? If you’re like us, you know the answer…you just have trouble communicating your preferences to others, especially people who are fluent in wine-speak.
We know we like Malbec. Except for some Malbecs we’ve tried that we don’t like. When that happens, we decide it must be “cheap,” because we want to believe we have expensive taste. A “good” Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon sometimes hits the spot—though we’ve been told they’re totally different, so maybe we’re mistaken. When we go for white, we like a bold Sauternes…or was it Sancerre? Le sigh.
Our limited vocabulary has made it difficult to take our wine education to the next level. When we go out, we tend to stick to the same order—“I’ll have the Cabernet”—rather than try something new that might disappoint.
Best Cellars wine store is for people who know what they like but not necessarily what it’s called. Instead of grape variety or place of origin, they classify their wines based on taste and style: fresh, juicy, big, smooth, soft, luscious, fizzy, sweet. Using this system, you’ll be able to pinpoint what it is about certain wines that appeals to you, and try other types with similar profiles.
